About Suffern, NY - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Suffern is a village located in Ramapo in Rockland County. As of 2010, this community was home to about 10,800 residents. This village was founded in 1796, and it went through the names of Sidman’s Clove and New Antrim before settling on Suffern. There are a variety of employment opportunities available in this community, as Novartis holds a major manufacturing facility here, and Avon’s Global Research and Development Center also calls the community home.
There are a few interesting places to visit when passing through Suffern and the surrounding areas. The Lafayette Theatre is the only surviving theater for movies in Rockland County, and it first opened its doors in 1924. Outdoor enthusiasts might like to check out the Sebago Cabins or Kakiat Park, while visitors who might like a more relaxing day may prefer to book a service at the Déjà Vu Salon & Spa or Montebello Skin Care Studio. There are also a couple of interesting museums located in the community, including the Suffern Village Museum and the Suffern Railroad Museum.
Suffern and the surrounding area are part of a humid continental climate zone, with weather conditions resembling Poughkeepsie and Upstate New York more so than nearby New York City. It features four distinct seasons, with summer months that are hot and humid. July is the hottest month of the year, and average daily highs usually reach the mid-80s. Most residents choose to invest in air conditioning units to stay comfortable throughout the season, especially considering that humidity levels can make it feel much warmer than indicated on the thermostat.
When winter rolls in to Suffern, climate controls are mandatory, as the season tends to be cold with significant snowfall. Average highs in the middle of winter will only reach the mid-30s, and overnight lows usually fall below the freezing point. This means that conditions both indoors and outdoors can become dangerously cold, so investing in an energy-efficient furnace or heat pump is essential to make it through the season safely and without breaking the bank on utility bills.
